Linda and Jim Dalton
Linda and Jim Dalton are a husband and wife team of ceramic artists who create one of a kind high end functional and decorative pottery, both wheel thrown and hand built, at our studio just 15 minutes north of Pinehurst, NC. Open by appointment, our studio has become a popular destination venue for out of town visitors as well as regulars, patrons and pottery collectors.
Linda has been fascinated with pottery since a visit to Seagrove 35 years ago. She had never before seen pottery made, and came home committed to the idea of learning to do it. Working and raising a family competed for her attention, so it was not until our twins left for college that she was able to begin taking classes. Starting with a wheel set up in the corner of Jim’s garage workshop, the studio expanded over time to take over the entire garage.
In 2004, we decided to move to Moore County. We purchased an 11 acre wooded tract with dogwoods, wildflowers, ferns wild birds and all sorts of game. Working with Mark Stewart of Stewart Construction and Development, and with our priorities firmly in place, we built a pottery studio first and lived in a rental house while Mark built our dream home. We moved into our home in June of 2005 and immediately the impact of living so much closer to nature began to have an influence on our work. We began decorating our pottery pieces with wild ferns, leaves from native plants and found bits of interesting limbs and knots. All of this just 15 minutes from Pinehurst, one of NC’s top tourist attractions.
In addition to being known as the Home of Golf, and having some of the finest courses in the nation, Pinehurst also hosts many major golf tournaments, such as the Men’s and Women’s US Open. There are more than 50 golf courses in the surrounding area, offering an exceptional variety of experiences for beginners, duffers, and champions. For the equestrians, there is also harness and steeplechase competition; dressage, cross country and show jumping. We are extremely fortunate to have found our way here to Pinehurst, as opportunities abound.
Custom work and commissions are an area in which we excel. When a patron once asked if we do custom work, our reply was “that’s why we call you customers!” We do custom horsehair with the hair of a specific horse, custom wall pieces in the size to fit a specific wall space, and custom trophies and awards for golf tournaments, croquet tournaments, tennis championships, as well as national car shows.
We also travel to select art fairs in the US and our work is available in select galleries. On our Galleries who represent us page, you will not only find listings for galleries where you may acquire our work, but a link to their home page for additional information such as directions, contact information, and hours of operation.
